You can create a WooCommerce product bundle with three variable-product items using the free Product Bundle Builder for WooCommerce workflow documented by Asana Plugins. Shoppers can choose from each parent product’s available variations in a popup; choosing specific variation records as the only permitted or default choices is a separate Pro feature. Asana Plugins’ variation guide and the WordPress.org plugin listing describe this distinction.

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Administrator access to a working WooCommerce store.
  • Three existing variable products. Each should have its variation attributes, purchasable variations, and prices set up.
  • Product Bundle Builder for WooCommerce installed and active.

This workflow adds the variable-product parents as bundle items. It does not configure a merchant-restricted list of specific variation records.

1. Create the parent bundle product

In the WordPress dashboard, start a new product and change its product type to the bundle type supplied by the active plugin.

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Products > Add New.
  2. Enter a name for the bundle. If you want a product image, set one from the product image control.
  3. In the Product data panel, choose Product bundle from the product-type dropdown.
  4. Confirm that the Product Bundles tab appears in the panel.

The tab is the expected result and provides the controls for adding the bundle’s component items. If Product bundle is not in the dropdown, check that Product Bundle Builder for WooCommerce is installed and active. The publisher documents this creation path in its guide to bundles with variations.

2. Add the three variable products as bundle items

Add each variable-product parent as its own item. The parent is the product that groups its available size, color, or other attribute variations; the shopper will choose an available variation for that item on the product page.

Add each parent product

  1. Open Product Bundles and click Add Bundle to create the first item.
  2. In that item’s Products field, search for and select the first variable-product parent.
  3. Set the item’s quantity and any other available item settings.
  4. Repeat Add Bundle and the product search for the second and third parents. When finished, the tab should contain three separate items, one for each parent product.

If a product does not appear in the search, confirm that it exists as a WooCommerce product. If you are using the documented free workflow, select the parent product—not a specific variation record—as the bundle item. Asana Plugins identifies selecting specific variation records in the Products or Default Product fields, including setting a particular variation as the default, as Pro functionality. The free workflow described in the publisher’s guide instead lets shoppers choose from the parent’s available variations. The WordPress.org listing also distinguishes the free variable-product workflow from Pro variation-product selection.

Choose item settings as needed

Set the default Quantity for each item. If you want shoppers to change an item’s quantity, enable Edit quantity by user for that item and set its minimum or maximum quantity as needed. These controls concern how many units of an item are included; they do not restrict which variation records the shopper may select.

The source guide also documents a Sort products setting, with ordering options including ID, Title, Menu order, Date, Price, Popularity, and Rating. Use it when the item’s product list needs a particular order. In the item’s Display tab, you can optionally override the item title or short description, change the text used for an empty item or product selection, customize the popup header, or set an image for an empty item. These display controls change how the item is presented; they do not change the available variations. The publisher’s variation guide describes these item settings.

3. Choose the bundle pricing method

Choose whether customers should see one price for the complete bundle or a total calculated from the selected products. Asana Plugins documents both methods and per-item discounts in its variation guide.

Set a fixed total or automatic price

  • Fixed total: Enable Fixed price, then open the General tab and enter the bundle’s Regular price. The guide also permits an optional Sale price. Use this route when you want one set price for the bundle rather than a total calculated from its selected products.
  • Automatically calculated total: Disable Fixed price to use Auto Calculate Bundle Price. The plugin then calculates the bundle price from the selected products. This is the documented alternative when the total should follow those selections.

Use one pricing method at a time, according to the offer you intend to sell. If the displayed total does not behave as expected, check whether Fixed price is enabled or disabled as intended.

Add item discounts if needed

For a discount on an individual component, use that bundle item’s Discount field. The guide lists percentage, price, and fixed-price discount choices. Apply a discount only where it fits your offer, and include it in the customer-facing price check. If a configured item discount is missing from the displayed total, revisit that item’s discount field.

4. Publish and test all three variation selectors

When the product details and pricing are ready, click Publish. Then open the published product page and check the customer-facing choices and total. Asana Plugins describes a popup for choosing available variations; its general bundle guide recommends checking the displayed items, quantities, prices, discounts, and Add to cart behavior (variation guide; general bundle guide).

Check the customer-facing selectors

  1. Open the variation selector for the first bundle item and choose an available variation.
  2. Repeat separately for the second and third items. Confirm that each selection belongs to its own product and that the choices you expect are available.
  3. Check the displayed bundle price against the pricing method you chose and any applicable item discounts.

This is an illustrative storefront example from the publisher, not a current-interface specification. Its displayed amounts are not current or generally applicable.

Create a WooCommerce Product Bundle With Selectable Variations

Check the cart result

Click Add to cart and confirm that the action succeeds. In the cart, check that the selected variations and total are consistent with the choices and pricing shown on the product page.

If an expected variation is missing, check that the component variable product has the relevant attributes and available variations. If the total is wrong, recheck Fixed price, the chosen pricing method, and the item discounts. If Add to cart fails, make sure every required bundle item has a valid selection. The task is complete when the published page allows a choice for each of the three items, displays the expected price, and adds the configured selections to the cart.

The free options described in the documentation serve different needs. Asana Plugins’ documented workflow fits a bundle where shoppers may choose among each variable parent’s available variations. If shoppers must be limited to specific variation records, the publisher identifies that selection as Pro functionality. WPClever likewise marks adding a variable product or a specific variation to a bundle as Premium on its product page.

WooCommerce’s free Variation Bundles mini-extension has a different purpose: it maps a variation to a non-configurable Product Bundle. WooCommerce defines those bundles as lacking configurable quantities, optional items, or variable products, so the documentation does not describe it as providing three independently configurable variable-product selectors. WooCommerce’s extension documentation explains that scope.
